Exclusive Reading of “Creating Art: Authenticity and Ownership in the Visual Arts” by SARTCOL Founders, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN and Dr. Jess Castellote

On October 24th, 2024, the Society for Art Collection (SARTCOL) hosted an exclusive reading of the newly published book, Creating Art: Authenticity and Ownership in the Visual Arts. The event featured presentations by the book’s authors, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN and Dr. Jess Castellote, both founders and esteemed board members of SARTCOL.

The evening attracted prominent figures from the art world, including Artist, collectors, Gallerists and art enthusiasts, transforming the reading session into a vibrant networking forum. Attendees had the unique opportunity to hear the authors discuss the book and engage in a lively Q&A session on topics such as originality, copyright, and art collecting. For many, the session was an enlightening experience, shedding light on previously unfamiliar aspects of the art world. The event also showcased selected artworks from the Society’s collection, providing a rich context for the book’s themes.

The choice of MILIKI as the venue added an artistic ambiance, enhancing the overall experience. Notable attendees included Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, CEO of Seplat Energy PLC; Professor Enase Okonedo, former Vice Chancellor of Pan Atlantic University; Ms. Ngozi Edozien, SARTCOL Board member; Mr. Roger Brown, Vice Chancellor of Pan Atlantic University; Mr. Nero Asibelua, SARTCOL Board member; Mrs. Sandra Mbanefo-Obiago, founder, SMO Contemporary Art; Mr. Femi Akinsanya; Dr. Ibikunle Dashur; Mr. Ejike Egbuagu, founder of the 1952 Africa Art Foundation; Mr. Atedo Peterside and Mrs. Dudun Peterside, Chairman of NSIA; Professor Juan, Mr. Ibahim Dikko, SARTCOL Board member.

This event not only celebrated the launch of Creating Art but also reinforced SARTCOL’s commitment to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of art.
